Hello I'm Joseph Saling!
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO and studied at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, CO.
While I have many hobbies and interest, In my spare time I enjoy a nice hiking/camping trip, painting in watercolor, listening to music, and tapping into my New Orleans roots through flavorful cooking.
I became a logo and brand designer to get more involved in community, meet great people, build lasting connections, and create for a purpose that is positive and meaningful.
My Goal
My overall goal is to create lasting designs made with care and representation, for small and local businesses to stand out from the "big guy" and have a brand that they are proud to show off and build upon.
I want to continue to grow my experience with each project and use my skills to give back to local communities.
My Simple PROCESS
1. Inquiry Form - Found in the contact section of my portfolio, This form gets the process started and gives me a base level understanding of you, your brand, and the services you need.
2. Discovery call - During this call, we discuss your brand in further detail. We find out your goals, purpose, target audience, styles/colors, personality, and overall how you'd like to present your brand to the real world.
3. Contract/Form Signing - I have a couple forms and a contract that just protects this process in the legal way. It also helps keep both parties stay informed and organized. (We will go through this step together so there is no confusion or misunderstanding)
4. First Payment - After we decide upon and agreed budget for the project, I ask for a deposit of half of the total project cost. This gets the project started and I begin sketching, researching, and building your logo, and other brand elements. (I will send invoices and receipts for every transaction)
5. First Draft - After putting together the first renditions of your designs, I will present them in a way that shows off your designs and how they will work in the real world through mockups. I also, explain design decisions I make to give you understanding and transparency into the development of your brand/logo. (This step usually takes a week)
6. 2-3 Revisions - Within 2 to 3 revisions we should be close to the final rendition of your brand/logo! Guided by your valued feedback, I will make corrections and edits based on your desired goal and ideas for the project to be successful.
7. Final Designs - Your final designs have been reviewed and approved by you to move on to the final steps! I will package and format each design element to be ready for use in both web and print applications.
8. Release of final Files/ Second Payment - For the final files to be released to you, I ask for the second half of the total project cost previous agreed upon. After this payment is received, I will send over your final designs to you for you to enjoy and use any way you'd like!
"My process is designed to be simple and efficient, so the focus can quickly shift to be on the creative process. I want help to provided transparency, clarity, security, interactive collaboration, and meet every goal for the project to be successful in timely manner."
About my logo
My logo is inspired by my interest in nature, history, fossils, geology, and anthropology. The shape represents a nautilus shell, a species of mollusk in the cephalopod family that is still alive in our oceans today and has been for over 500 million years.
What is special about the shell of this animal is, that it is an example of the famed golden ratio found throughout many other examples nature (1.618). This ratio can be used in the design process to create balance and proportions of elements in any field of design. I often find myself using this ratio as a guide in my own designs.
